Gut Dysfunction

Many people are affected by gut dysfunction of some form during their lives. Symptoms can be in the form of difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, a change in bowel habit or blood loss. If you are concerned that you may have any of these symptoms, consult your GP who may refer you to a Consultant for further investigation.

After consultation and examination, you may have investigations such as blood tests, a chest X-ray, or an ultrasound scan.

You may be admitted to hospital for a day in order to undergo either a colonoscopy or an OGD, both of which are performed under sedation.

Following the investigations, you will be given a further appointment to discuss all the findings with Professor Bailey, who will recommend what, if any, further treatment is required.
