Adrenal Gland Removal

Keyhole surgery is particularly appropriate for the removal of diseased adrenal glands. These are small hormone releasing glands, situated near to the kidney. They are relatively inaccessible by open surgery, which would involve a very large incision. However, keyhole surgery in expert hands allows the adrenal gland to be removed through three or four incisions no greater than 1 cm in diameter.

The procedure, laparoscopic adrenalectomy, usually allows patients to go home within 24 to 48 hours rather than a week or more by open surgery, and with virtually no pain or discomfort.
