Low Fat Diet

This diet is intended only for patients who are suffering from gallbladder conditions and have been instructed to follow it by a doctor. If you are in any doubt, please contact your Consultant or General Practitioner.

The foods which contain most fat are meat (including liver and kidney), fatty fish, eggs, dairy produce such as whole milk, cream, cheese, butter, vegetable oils, margarine, lard and suet, together with manufactured and baked products made with these products.

Always choose lean meat, removing all obvious fat, and either grill, casserole or roast your meat on a trivet. Whole milk should be replaced by skimmed milk.

If this diet is continued for more than one month, ask your General Practitioner for a prescription for Vitamins A and D. It is important to maintain body weight within normal limits and, if you lose weight after commencing this diet, please take more potato, cereals and fruit and, if necessary, extra sugar.
